I have fond memories of BT’s from my college days at RU. During a recent visit, I stopped with my daughter to have brunch. The steak and eggs are a must-order. The ribeye was cooked perfectly medium and the eggs were also cooked exactly to my liking over easy. I will make this a regular stop when I am in Radford.
Perfect College town bar & restaurant. Open Floor concept with booth and table seating that can accommodate both large and small parties. Great place to go to to watch the game as they have multiple large TV’s. Very friendly and attentive staff. Our party of 3 (2 adults, 1 Toddler) got an appetizer of fried oysters and entrees of 10 pc. Cajun seasoned wings, Long Way home Chef Salad, and kids pita pepperoni pizza. They meals were plentiful and delicious, ranch dressing is also house made! Meals are moderately priced as our bill was around $65
I stopped in at the suggestion of the clerk at my hotel. There was no wait for a Monday evening and the staff was welcoming. I had the Cuban Sandwich with sweet potato fries and a salad. All of my selections were delicious and the server was attentive and kind.
The BEST wrong direction ever! On our way from PA back to NOLA. We made reservations for the night but instead of heading west we went east 30 minutes the wrong way. So we decided to make the most of it.
At hotel check in I asked for a nearby sports bar. The desk clerk gave me a list of about 30 places and a coupon to BT's Sports Bar. It turned out to be 3 of the BEST hours of a 2400 mile trip.
Started with the bar Ambassador John! He made us feel welcomed even though Bob's LSU hat was snuffed at. LOL. Then we disagreed about Saint vs some Georgia team. We talked with this wonderful man for hours.
Then he introduced us to a guy that was cleaning tables. Todd was welcoming and talked with us for a while before we realized he was the owner. His story of how he and his wife came to own this place was inspiring.
We may never see them again but for one enchanting evening God brought us together with some awesome people that gave us great joy, many laughs, excellent food and Tee Shirts we wear that gets lot of attention.
We love you guys and we ❤ BT's!!!
Great place to have a great tasting meal. Food is always excellent and flavorful. Check first to make sure there isn't a home game otherwise you will have a long wait but that's because it is the happening place to be for a gathering.
We had just finished touring Virginia Tech and our hotel was near BT’s. BT’s rustic and worn look from the outside really adds to its college ambience next to Radford.
We liked the appetizer menu so much that each of us decided to order our own. My daughter, 17 ordered the mozzarella sticks. I ordered the fried oysters and my ex-wife, yes, we travel together, ordered these spring rolls. All the selections were cooked perfectly, and we shared. Not feeling the need for a full dinner, I ordered a Caesar salad, and my ex-wife ordered the house salad. She could not stop raving about the ranch dressing and confirmed with the waitress that it was a house mix. If you pass through here with family, definitely stop for the food on the friendly service.
Tweeks Home Town Food Review:
So we went to the "student pub" next to Radford University on a Sunday night just bc it was the only thing open at 8pm anywhere in Radford. We popped in.. and waited a couple minutes for the girl behind the wall to pop her head out and say, "Oh.. you waiting?".. As we walked by the wall we saw a guy fixing his hair that she just appeared to have been making out with.. Ewww... yeahh.. wow.. so gross & inappropriate in a restaurants. That should have been a sign to turn around.. but I was starving so we sat down and ordered drinks and appetizer.
The same make-out girl who seated us took our order. At first she slurred her words so badly I thought she was def.. so I loudly enunciated my order before realizing that she wasn't deaf.. but she may have been on some kind of substance.. Who knows..
While we were getting our food, two other employee guys were in the entrance hallway playing games of strength and balance.. falling over and laughing like they were at a party.. and there was an employee smoking like 5ft outside the front entrance, so we would occasionally catch a waft of cigarette smoke. Wow.. Real nice.. I wasn't sure if this was an food establishment or a frat house. Okay.. enough about the unprofessional children and atmosphere.. (the place needs an adult manager to snap their employees into shape).
Okay.. Now.. The Food.
For a quick appetizer, we had the spinach artichoke dip. It was pretty good. Very rich, and a large portion too (ran out of chips before dip). It came with like 8 small pieces of pita and the rest of the tray was corn chips. Wish it was all pita. But whatever. I was starving.
My wife got some kind of super thick patty melt on rye that looked greasy but good (pub food after all) and tots, as sandwich trays include one side. And I got the fried chicken tender platter (which I never order), bc they seemed to be be very proud of their hand battered tenders.. Trays come with two sides so I got them with fries (which were "okay") and a Caesar salad. The salad was also okay , though not mixed well.. but the tenders were actually pretty good. A dark, almost brick red double dipped coating that had just a touch of some kind of spice.. with side dips of traditional Buffalo and Sweet Thai Chili are the two dips I chose. The Buffalo was lacking, but I liked the sweet Thai chili. I would get the tenders again.. though I probably won't return. The staff is what really brought this place down from a three-star to just two. I wouldn't bring my family or kids in this place without sanitizer and maybe a Hep-C shot, as I doubt the staff could pass a piss test.
Thus place was fine except for the bartender who burted out expletives and said it was a brain dead job. I found that offensive! The Buffalo chicken wrap was good but the coleslaw was a little too different for my taste.
